thank you

The shooting season has wound down and it’s time to reflect on the coming year. Thank you to all my families and clients that trusted me to capture their giggles and smiles this year. It’s been a fabulous one!

Our Menchie’s experience has been like having another kid – we decided to go ahead with it around April 1 and almost 9 months later we nearing the end of construction. I’ll be taking a “business leave” from the studio to focus my energies on getting Menchie’s open and then I’ll shift back to the studio in March!

whirlwind

My life has been quite a whirlwind the past 6 weeks – and anyone with school age children knows what I mean! Summer wound down too quickly, then it was vacation, then it was school shopping, then it was school. Now we are here, looking for a rhythm to our day.

So that’s why I picked this image to post today – time to smell the flowers or at least enjoy them like this little guy!

And time for some studio news…I’ll heading to California from September 17 – October 2. Besides a trip to the spa in the afternoon, it’s more of a business trip. Adding to the plethora of things on my plate, we’ve decided to open a Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt here in Middleton (happens to be a block away from the studio!). So…as the managing partner, off I go to learn all about it. No worries – once I am back in town (and for the long term), I’ll still be shooting and doing sessions.

off to the deep south

It’s been a few years (call it five) since I have been to a weeklong photography workshop. For me, it’s the best way for me to stretch and expand my skills. By the end of the week, I don’t want to even pick up my camera, I am so fried. But when I get home, I am always amazed at what I created and how I have grown.

So, on Thursday, I am venturing to Louisiana to study with Debbie Fleming-Caffery and Carlan Tapp (Spicy Gumbo Workshop). The focus is documentary photography of the food and music of the South. Needless to say, I am excited. And I am even more excited to get on an airplane by myself and without my children.

I’ll be back in the office on Tuesday, May 25th…
